A long, narrow street in the old center, ruled by junkies and street dealers for some decades.

Freehaven for artists. Squatted village in the West Harbor district. Since 1974, a ‘Psychonaut Heaven’.

AMSTERDAM DANCE EVENT
Yearly dance event in dozens of clubs all over Amsterdam, including the Amsterdam Tower in the northern part of the city.

ANDRÉ HAZES
Died in 2004. A working-class fellow and popular folk singer, “Blood, Sweat & Tears” was one of his hits and is still the club song for AJAX.

AMSTERDAM BEACH
Bloemendaal aan Zee, where the North Sea beach clubs organize dance events along the coastline.

M.D.M.A.
Methylenedioxy-methamphetamine, or ‘love drug,’ is ecstasy. Commonly used in the dance scene. Makes sense and fakes sense.

FLY AGARIC
Amanita Muscaria, known as ‘vliegenzwam,’ grows in the Amsterdam Forest but is protected by law.
